天啊, Introduction 怎麼寫? 1-5

多段式寫作(essay)一點都不像中文結構，英文系學生、參加留學考的人領教過 essay難寫的經驗。與其說難寫，不習慣它的組織內容和寫法也許更貼切，譬如，第一段Introduction，要擺啥內容?

在大學階段的essay, Introduction不外乎包含下列幾項：
1) 提供與主題相關的資訊。
2) 你的主要看法或回答 (theme)。
3) 帶出三個支持你看法的理由。

寫法是，一開始，介紹主題的相關資訊是比較廣泛(兩、三句)，隨後，才是更具體的看法以及支持它的三個要點(最後一、兩句)。這樣的架構，就形成上寬下窄，類似倒三角形的寫法，注意，這僅適用於第一段。

Introduction 的目的不僅是要告訴讀者你的寫作目的和看法，更重要的，如何引起讀者興趣。要引起讀者興趣的方法很多，我們用一個寫作題目：『駕駛人該不該使用大哥大』作說明如何將1), 2), 3) 組合在第一段。

假設你的寫作立場是立法禁止開車時使用大哥大，請參考下面寫法 (以下範例所用數字、文字、句型純屬捏造，僅供示範用)：

Over the last year, 15 percent of the car accidents involved drivers’ using cell phones and led to 130 deaths, a five percent jump from a year ago. The numbers indicate that driving while talking on the phone can be fatal. They also suggest that education alone about not using hand held devices when driving is not effective. Now, the time to impose a law banning drivers using cell phones has come.

帶出寫作立場前，善用事實、數據或報導是很好提供與主題相關資訊的方法之一。考試時，可以用約略的量化法，如: "several thousand, more/less than five percent, one in five, or hundreds of thousands" 來強調你的主題。
