Jeonju is the capital of North Jeolla Province. It is both urban and rural due to the closeness of Wanju County which almost entirely surrounds Jeonju. The name Jeonju literally means "Perfect Region". It is an important tourist center famous for Korean food, historic buildings, sports activities, and innovative festivals. In 2012, Jeonju was chosen as a Creative Cities for Gastronomy as part of UNESCO's Creative Cities Network.
【Spot Introduction】
Jeonju Hanok Village: Jeonju Hanok Village is located in the city of Jeonju and overlaps Pungnam-dong and Gyo-dong. There are over 800 traditional Korean hanok houses. While the rest of city has been industrialized, Hanok Village retains its historical charms and traditions.
Jeonju Rail Bike: Jeonju Rail Bike runs along an abandoned section of railroad on the Ajung Line near Jeonju Hanok Village, one of Korea’s largest landmarks, attracting 10 million visitors a year. The course runs approximately 3.4km from Silli to Waemangsil at a speed of about 15 to 20 km per hour.
Deokjin Park: Deokjin Park is Jeonju’s most popular green area and bursts to life with lotus flowers in full bloom every year near the end of June. Due to such a breathtaking view of its landscape, the park has earned the nickname “Deokjin Chaeryeon,” where chaeryeon is the term for a floral patterned palanquin.
