第五種吸引讀者注意力的essay開頭寫法是提問題。提問題可以引導、影響讀者，朝著你設定的方向去思考。看下面的示範:
Some people may find themselves in a difficult position to choose between the individual right to talk on the phone while driving and the state’s right to protect the public’s safety on the road when approaching the issue on whether to ban drivers using cell phones. However, it becomes clearer if we consider two key questions. What could happen if drivers were distracted by cell phone talks? Could our lives and those of our loved ones be better protected on the road if drivers were denied access to cell phones? Imposing a law banning drivers using cell phones is the only answer to these questions.
提問題的作法，很多時候是擺在第一段的第一句，可以很快吸引讓讀者注意力，讓他按照你的方式去思考。再看下面的示範:
How dangerous can it be when people are talking on the phone while driving? A split second of getting their mind, or eyes, off the road can easily lead to accidents. What is considered an individual right may be very likely to become a criminal act, or negligence, threatening many innocent lives....
當你閱讀第二、三句時，不太會停下來思考作者的立論基礎，反而順著作者的邏輯去思考吧? 如果是，這就是開門見山，將問題擺在第一句的效果。
當然，要做到這一點，首先，你要具備句型變化、變換字詞的能力(任何寫作的根本)，再來，要有清晰的表達邏輯(什麼先，什麼後)，從提問題到後面的說明，一切都需要設計。例如，第一句的dangerous, 第二句的 accidents，第三句的 criminal act, negligence 都是用來傳遞一個觀點，那就是，開車使用手機的壞處。這幾個英文字雖不同，但全指向這缺點、壞處，這就是我所謂的設計。
前後幾週跟大家分享幾種我認為不錯的第一段寫法，當然，一定還有很多種開頭寫法。我個人認為不是哪一個比較好(雖然選美是人天性的一部分)，更不是該背哪一種(你會昏倒，若是知道有多少essay題型的話)的問題，而是花點時間去閱讀、去寫，如果你不討厭英文，或是你準備出國留學。因為，不停的去揣摩、模仿，你自然會抓到西式寫作的架構、邏輯(真的不用出國，甚至出門!)，而不只是一直停留在文法上打轉(看看有多少文法相關的文章po在寫作這個論壇)，不妨上網看看托福、雅思、多益等寫作的評分標準，是你的寫作論述完整性、結構、邏輯、句型大過你的文法，還是相反?然後，你再思考是否需要改變學習方式。
